Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar was ‘honey trapped’ by a woman identified as Shilanti Rahman who has now been detained in Dhaka, Bangladesh Police informed. She is a Bangladeshi national and the girlfriend of the prime accused Akhtaruzzaman Shahin.
The MP who came to Kolkata on May 12 for medical treatment, was skinned, chopped and pieces stuffed into plastic bags dumped across multiple parts of the city. The MP was allegedly murdered at the rented flat of Akhtaruzzaman – a US citizen – in Kolkata’s New Town area.
Anwarul was staying with his friend Gopal Biswas upon his arrival in Kolkata, until he went missing a few days later. Police sources revealed that Shilanti was asked to ‘honey trap’ by Akhtaruzzaman so as to bring Anwarul from Bangladesh to Kolkata.
While the motive behind the murder is yet to be formally announced by the police, sources said that Akhtaruzzaman killed Anwarul due to clashes over some payments. Akhtaruzzaman also paid Rs 5 crore to those involved in the gruesome crime.
Meanwhile, West Bengal’s Crime Investigation Department (CID) revealed that a Bangladeshi immigrant, Jihad Hawaldar, confessed of murdering the MP along with four others and chopping off the body into pieces to destroy the identity of Anwarul.
Hawaldar said that the murder was planned and carried out on the instructions of Akhtaruzzaman. CID added that Hawaldar is a professional butcher hired to dismember the victim’s body and is a resident of Barakpur in Bangladesh’s Khulna district. He was staying in Mumbai illegally for some time and later came to Kolkata two months back.
