The north Indian states of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi sizzled under the blistering heatwave condition as the temperature touched 50 degrees Celsius on Tuesday in Rajasthan’s Churu and Haryana’s Sirsa.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the national capital’s Mungeshpur and Narela clocked 49.9 degrees Celsius, followed by Najafgarh at 49.8 degrees Celsius, adding that heatwave is expected to continue for the next two days.
While the entire Rajasthan continued to suffer the brutal heatwave, Churu in the state remained the hottest place with a maximum temperature of 50.5 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in Rajasthan’s Ganganagar settled at 49.4 degree Celsius whereas Pilani and Phalodi in the state and Jhansi recorded 49 degrees Celsius.
The weather department also said in a statement that heatwave also prevailed in many parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and in isolated pockets of Bihar and Himachal Pradesh.
In Haryana, Hisar, Narnaul and Rohtak also witnessed record temperatures and day temperature crossed 48 degrees Celsius in the NCR districts of Faridabad, Gurugram and Sonipat.
The IMD has said that respite from abnormally hot weather condition is expected after May 30 due to some thunderstorm in northwest India and rainfall in the western Himalayan region.
