Billionaire Gautam Adani has clinched the title of Asia’s richest person, overtaking Mukesh Ambani, Reliance Industries Chairman on Bloomberg Billionaires Index. As of Saturday, Adani reached the 11th spot on the index with net worth of $111 billion, compared to Ambani’s $109 billion that placed him at the 12th rank.
Adani’s surpassing Ambani can be attributed to a surge in the stock price of the Adani Group on Friday by up to 14 percent.
Currently, the wealthiest man in the world is Bernard Arnault with a whopping net worth of $207 billion, according to the index. Whereas Elon Musk has managed to grab the second spot with a wealth of $203 billion, followed by Jeff Bezos with $199 billion.
The index further mentioned that till 2024, Adani’s net worth has escalated to $26.8 billion, while that of Ambani’s climbed by USD 12.7 billion. Adani’s wealth expanded even more in the last one decade – from roughly USD 5 billion in 2014 to a whopping USD 121 billion at the end of 2022.
A college dropout, Adani began his career in a diamond industry and later started working at a plastics factory that was run by his brother. He established his own company in 1988 with import-export operations and later paved way to other domains as well.
